If you know that you have a rotator cuff tear, then you probably know that it is a fancy Latin way of describing a shedload of pain in your shoulder.
A rotator cuff tear is when one or more of the tendons of the four rotator cuff muscles are overstretched. This can include any type of irritation or damage to the rotator cuff muscles or tendons & are among the most common conditions affecting the shoulder. Acute tears occur as a result of a sudden, high stress motion or impact, such as a fall on the outstretched arm, or a heavy lift with a jerking motion.
We go on to focus on exercise as a first option of treatment.
Early exercise therapy will help maintain range of motion & as pain decreases, strengthening exercises to strengthen the muscles round the shoulder joint.
Rotator cuff treatment can also include the use of a cold pack to reduce the inflammation & pain, stretching, massage & joint mobilizations.
